What the service means

Compare quantities, material specifications, preparation, labor, disposal, visit frequency, and finish standards. For recurring work, compare a full-season schedule rather than a single visit.

Common terminology and scope differences

Ask the provider to translate labels into observable tasks, quantities, materials, staffing, timing, and customer responsibilities. A familiar package name is not a complete scope.

What commonly drives price

  • measured area, material depth, plant size, or debris volume
  • site access, grading, drainage, buried utilities, and protection
  • crew time, equipment, hauling, delivery, and disposal
  • warranty terms, watering or aftercare, and change orders

Limitations

Weather and hidden site conditions can affect timing and scope. A conceptual estimate is not the same as a final contract based on measured quantities.

Questions to ask before booking

  • What measurements and quantities support the total?
  • What preparation, cleanup, and disposal are included?
  • How are substitutions and additional work approved?
  • For recurring work, what is the season, frequency, and per-visit task list?

A practical comparison method

Create one row for every material, task, visit, fee, exclusion, and responsibility. Mark a blank as “not stated,” not as “included.” Ask each provider to clarify material differences in writing, then compare the total against the outcome and risk you actually need.
